Rooftop deck repair addresses the structural layer underneath your roofing material – the plywood or OSB deck that everything else attaches to. When water gets underneath shingles or membrane for long enough, the deck itself can rot or weaken, and no amount of surface repair fixes that underlying problem.
We find this during roof replacements and repairs throughout Ithaca, NY when we pull back roofing material and discover soft, discolored, or rotted decking – usually a sign that a leak was active for longer than anyone realized. Deck damage isn't something that shows up until the roofing material above it is removed.
We remove roofing material in the affected area to fully expose the deck, then identify exactly how far the damage extends, since rot often spreads further than the original leak point. Damaged sections get cut out and replaced with new plywood or OSB matching the existing deck thickness, properly fastened to the roof framing underneath. Once the deck is solid, we reinstall underlayment and roofing material over the repaired section, matching the surrounding material.
Cost depends on how much decking needs replacement and the accessibility of the affected area.
